To mark the 650th anniversary of Markneukirchen’s town charter on 6 June 2010 a giant tuba was built by our resident instrument makers. Work on the instrument began years in advance. Werner Chr. Schmidt was deeply honoured to be commissioned with turning a suitably large mouthpiece for the instrument.

The largest tuba mouthpiece ever to be turned in the company possessed the following dimensions:

  • Outer diameter: 78,0 mm
  • Inner diameter: 58,0 mm
  • Bore: 12,5 mm
  • Cup depth: 67,0 mm
  • Weight: 1.700 grammes

The giant tuba is temporarily on display in Markneukirchen’s Musical Instruments Museum.
